About the role
Accountable for the Commercial Finance function for our Sydney Water Contract as part of the Contract leadership team. The Contract combines operational mechanical and electrical maintenance and facilities maintenance, servicing over 4.6 million residents in 1.8 million homes in the Sydney, Illawarra and Blue Mountains region. Sydney Water’s operations include 30 water and wastewater treatment plants, 260 reservoirs and over 800 pumping stations and 2,400 buildings across 1,250 sites extending across 13,000km2.
The role is responsible for the finance, commercial, contractual and administrative functions. The key objectives of the role are:
Maximise contract revenue, margin and cash flow
Add value to the contract for both the Client and Ventia through proactive involvement in procurement, cost management, cash management and profit & loss reporting
Manage Commercial items through robust negotiations and contract lifecycle management
Ensure Ventia’s operations are efficient and effective in meeting business and customer requirements by presenting effective budget management information and identifying/implementing opportunities to maximise financial outcomes whilst minimising risk
Ensure smooth and effective administration duties in support of Operations
The role has 5 direct reports.
5-7 years’ experience in the key facets of financial management including developing and maintaining multiple budgets, maintaining cash flow, overseeing creditors and debtors, producing financial reports and ensuring statutory compliance
Extensive experience in financial operations, including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, budgeting, forecasting and other general accounting services
Ability to understand and analyse commercial conditions in contracts, and the ability to apply and comply with statutory legislation and regulations
Previous people management experience
Educated to Degree level preferably in a Business, Finance or Commercial field
Previous experience in a services or utilities company (highly regarded)
Demonstrated strong Customer engagement and stakeholder management skills
Communication skills both written and verbal, along with demonstrated negotiation and analytical skills are critical
Previous experience in IBM Maximo, JDE, Primavera 6 and Kronos (advantageous but not essential)
